Cryotherapy Aftercare
here is your important aftercare
Your cryotherapy treatment achieves its effect on the epidermal skin lesions by freezing resulting in a separation between the epidermis and the basal membrane. All cryogenic methods are based on this principle. A small quanitity of the cryogen coolant needs to reach the healthy skin cells and approx. 1mm around the boarders of the lesion onto healthy skin cells to effectively treat the diseased tissue.
Following treatment, the frozen epidermis peels away in about two to three days and new epidermis grows in its place.
• Keep the treated area of skin clean
• Swimming or showering are permitted.
• Do not pick or scratch the treated area.
• Use a tape to protect any blisters that may form.
• Do not lance any blisters that may form
One to four treatments with intervals of two weeks may be required.
If your wart or verrucae is large or highly elevated and required debriding before cryo, you may feel increased sensitivity on this area, so avoid playing sports, swimming or walking to vigorously for 24 hours after treatment.
Your therapist may recommend to continue use of a salicylic topical gel at home after 3 days for 2 weeks at which time you can return to clinic for a second treatment. Otherwise you should not apply any lotions or products to the area.
The uppermost layer of skin, together with the diseased tissue, will disappear. It will be replaced by a new, healthy layer of skin in 10 to 14 days. Freezing commences once the applicator is placed in contact with the skin. The affected skin will turn white. From this point on you may experience a stinging or burning sensation. This sensation will rapidly fade away after the thawing phase.
Temporary, visible changes in the intensity of pigmentation may occur following treatment. Cryotherapy sometimes gives rise to blisters. Under no circumstances should you lance the blister, instead protect it with tape.
Keep the treated area clean and do not pick or scratch it. Swimming or showering are permitted. Some disorders may require a series of treatments
*Report any unusual side effects to the clinic.
